This Is Halloween!
It is the week of Halloween and that means decorations, costumes and candy!
This week’s podcast episode is all about how much we spend on Halloween each year.
This year is approximately $12 Billion!
For some that seems like a waste of money. For others it is worth every penny.
Halloween has long been a curiosity of mine and not for the usual reasons of monsters, horror, trick or treating or any of the usual reasons people like the holiday. My fascination with it is around play and how much adults love the holiday. Parties are fun! Getting dressed up is fun! Adults have less and less “play” in their lives and it is an amazing correlation to where we use our money.
If we do not have fun and use our money for that purpose we lose out on something good for our humanity. As you go out into the neighborhood with your kids or attend a party with friends this Halloween pay attention to the fun that it is and create your own reasons for why this is. Also, pay attention to the economy of Halloween and see if you can spot where some of that $12 Billion went.
Here’s a couple hints.
1.3 Billion pounds of pumpkins are sold.
$500 million on Halloween cards.
$4 Billion on decorations.
$3.8 Billion on costumes.
$3.5 Billion on candy.
